We have an exciting, NEW opportunity for a Cybersecurity Linux Engineer to join Team AUSGAR's smart, innovative technical team members.

Cybersecurity Linux Engineer - 20-031


This Cybersecurity Engineering position supports a Research and Development Sea Hunter program. The Sea Hunter program is an unmanned afloat vessel.  The position ensures the unmanned vessel Linux platform meets DoN Cybersecurity requirements, as well as configures the Linux OS IAW security best practices, Linux patching, developing baseline images and learning to the control operations of the unmanned vessel.  Requires a self-starter who is willing to learn new concepts and work as part of a small engineering team.  Requires occasionally going to sea or in the bay to test and operate the vessel for a day trip, with an occasional overnight stay on vessel.

Job Description:

  • Conduct Linux patching and security lockdowns in accordance with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guidance (STIGs)
  • Configure the Linux Operating System, such as installing drivers, networking information, disk partitioning, system backups and creating baseline images
  • Research solutions and provide recommendations for solutions to leadership
  • Provide technical recommendations for architecture updates and changes to improve security to architecture
  • Operate and troubleshoot an unmanned vehicle software during testing events
  • Develop white papers and system administration guides as required.
  • Run ACAS/Nessus scans to verify patch installation
  • Develop architecture diagrams and other artifacts as necessary for Cybersecurity RMF packages
  • Assist with the security assessments of the unmanned vessel
  • Assist with the development of Mitigation statements for Cybersecurity RMF packages

Total Years of Related Experience for Position:  5+ Linux experience and Cybersecurity engineering

Job Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Engineering/IT/Scientific discipline from accredited college/university or equivalent years of experience preferred
  • Strong Linux systems engineering skills required
  • Experience installing patches required
  • Strong technical writing capabilities
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret clearance

 Desired/Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Experience in securing Linux systems in accordance with DISA STIGs requirements preferred
  • Experience using ESX or other virtualization software preferred
  • Experience with networking preferred
  • Navy experience preferred
  • Operating system cert preferred.
